Respectful. Responsible. Safe.

They are more than words we see on the walls of our school. They are promises we make to one another to ensure that we can learn, laugh and grow as a community.

Respectful.

What does it mean to be respectful? Respectful students wait patiently for their turn to speak. They listen to their teacher and follow instructions without complaint. Respectful students honor others' space, property and work. They try to help their classmates be successful because they know we are a team.

Our class's thoughts about being respectful:
"Being respectful is about taking turns and being patient with others. You have to remember that there are other people around you and not always think of yourself first."

"Respect is showing people that they are important to you."

Responsible.

What does it mean to be responsible? Responsible students can be trusted to stay on task when their teacher is helping someone else. They keep track of their assignments and do not wait until the last minute to finish work. They always try their best and they make sure they can be proud of their work. If a responsible student is confused about a lesson or assignment, they ask questions until they understand what is expected or what to do.

Our class's thoughts about being responsible:

Safe.

What does it mean to be safe? Safe students choose words and actions that are kind. They do not bully their classmates. Safe students know that in our school, we share space with small children and we need to watch out for them. They use their bodies AND their brains on the playground. A safe student knows the difference between tattling and reporting a real emergency. S/He makes the hard decisions and does what is right.
